Other People’s Versions of You

Open each book, one at a time
find the pictures and remember why
things were so good
things weren’t all bad
We did not know
what would come after that

Read each verse, quote each  one
they’re just the words, in webs that I have spun
we were all young
we were afraid
where did you go
I’m so alone these days

I see other people’s versions of you

Finding the time, crafting some hook
I think of you as someone that someone took
I can’t be good
without what’s right
that’s what you were
Now you’re gone and I fight

I see other people’s versions of you
They’re so lucky, they don’t know it’s true
You’ll be someone that they know and love
Will you wonder what I have become
I can’t I call you when I don’t know what to do
I see other people’s versions of you

My reflection in the bottle is bold
I believe that my stories been told
There’s a verdict swinging in my mind
It erases things I wish that I could find

I see other people’s versions of you
They’re so lucky, they don’t know it’s true
You’ll be someone that they know and love
Will you wonder what I have become
I can’t I call you when I don’t know what to do
I see other people’s versions of you
